Lourdes Group

Every year a number of young people (16+) from the parish join the Shrewsbury Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. They go as helpers for the sick and elderly and work in the hospital helping with the personal care of pilgrims from Shrewsbury (they have to be 18 to do this), cleaning and assisting with meals in the hospital. Teams also assist pilgrims with mobility problems, taking them to the grotto, the religious services and to the town. They become companions to the sick and elderly pilgrims, and great friendships are made. The young people are a credit to the parish, and work tirelessly throughout the week. They have an opportunity to socialize with all the other young helpers who come from across the country.

The cost of going would be prohibitive for most young people, so they engage in fund raising events throughout the year to assist with the cost.

The fund raising includes running a parish supper, cake sales and a fun day for the children of the parish.
